Dr David Cook
Dr Dave Cook is a Sport Scientist at the Academy of Sport, London South Bank University. He is the Course Director, Sport and Exercise Sciences and Senior Lecturer in Biomechanics.
His research interests include:
- Sporting performance
- Dynamical systems in Sport Taekwondo
- Barefoot mechanics
- Pathological Gait
Dr Cook became a full-time lecturer in 2000 and had one main goal – to change people’s perception of Biomechanics and to illustrate its application in the ‘real world’. This quest has resulted in open-minded students, new ideas on teaching and innovative product development. One such development is The FitFlop where Dr Cook and his colleague Darren James developed the patent-pending Microwobbleboard™ technology that makes this product activate certain muscles to a greater extent than ‘normal’ footwear.
Dr Cook has another great passion – Taekwondo, particularly Sport Taekwondo. He was the GB World University coach 2007 (Thailand), 2008 and 2009 (Serbia) and he is continually delving into his scientific knowledge to try and improve performance in this sport.
Dr Cook is a regular contributor to Parents for Health.
